It has been seen in the recent times that there are a lot of issues in relation with the eyes. The main trouble lies in the atmosphere around us and the kind of eating habits that we have. The stress and the workload is such right from the beginning that we actually7 do not get the time. The eyes do need the extra amount of attention and here is what you should look to do. Just add these few things in your diet and you might have the pleasure of having the healthiest eyes.

Leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale helps keeping the eyes healthy by preventing the occurrence of blurriness or darkness at the center of our vision.  Spinach and kale are high in lutein and zeaxanthin.  These two nutrients lower the risk of AMD (age related macular degeneration) and cataracts.  Other dark leafy green vegetables like romaine lettuce, collards and turnip greens, also contain significant amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin. Broccoli, beans and peas are also good sources.

Carrots and other orange-colored fruits and vegetables help to promote eye health and protect vision. These foods get their orange color from Beta-carotene, a type of Vitamin A which helps in the smooth functioning of the retina and other eye parts. Carrots also help in preventing night blindness.  Relatively high levels of Vitamin C (an antioxidant) are essential for eyes. Oranges and other citrus fruits like grapefruit, tangerines, tomatoes and lemons — are high in Vitamin C.

Blueberries reduces eye fatigue. Apricots are rich in Beta carotene and lycopene both of which promote good vision. Strawberry and peach has similar benefits as oranges. Kiwis also help in keeping our eyes healthy.

Scientists suggests that diets rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid reduces the risk of developing eye disease in later life and helps in developing clear eye sight. It is found in fishes like salmon, sardines, tunas, and halibut.

Antioxidant vitamins like A, C, E are essential for a healthy eye. These can be found in the food mentioned above. They can also be found in dairy products, nuts and eggs. Zinc is an essential mineral that may help protect the eyes from the damaging light effects .Black-eyed peas, kidney beans, lima beans, and peanuts contains high amounts of  zinc.  Zinc can also be found in fortified cereals, lean red meat and oysters. Health supplements containing antioxidant vitamins, zinc and selenium are good for eye health.
