CBD oil is on the rise lately, and more and more people are recognizing the multiple health benefits this wonderful plant can bring. If you’ve heard of CBD oil, but you’re not sure what it is or how it can help you, read on to learn more.

What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol is one of the 104 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. However, it does not contain THC, which is the psychoactive property found in the recreational drug marijuana. So while it is derived from the same plant, CBD does not alter your state or mind and give you a “high”. This cannabinoid can come in many forms, from pure CBD concentrate to gummies, tinctures, drinks, and even lotions.

The cannabis plant was used for hundreds of years as a natural remedy to heal and treat common aches and pains. In more recent years, there have been many scientific studies that backed the following health benefits of CBD oil.

Anxiety and mood disorders

CBD can work as an anxiolytic, which is an anti-anxiety medication. Its compounds help to relax the user, as CBD has the ability to act on the brain’s receptors for serotonin; the neurotransmitter known as the “feel good hormone”.

In one study, 24 people with a diagnosed social anxiety disorder received 600 mg of CBD before a public speaking test. After the exam, this group was found to have significantly less anxiety and discomfort in speaking, as well as lower cognitive impairment, compared to the other members who received a placebo drug. Best of all, no side effects of using CBD were observed during this study.

According to the World Health Organization, anxiety disorder is ranked as the sixth largest contributor to a disability worldwide. Considering that anxiety is typically treated with pharmaceuticals that can cause numerous harmful side effects, the emergence of CBD oil can be great news for the million of anxiety sufferers worldwide.

Insomnia

Anyone who’s had sleep issues in the past can turn to CBD to help relax and put them off to sleep. In a 2013 study on rats, it was found that CBD increased total sleep time. The chemical was able to help the rats fall and stay asleep for a longer amount of time than normal. So if you have problems catching zzz’s, then CBD may be for you.

Pain relief

The human body has something known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), and it is used to regulate multiple different functions such as appetite, pain, and immune system response. To do this, the body produces endocannabinoids, which bind to the cannabinoid oils found naturally in your nervous system.

CBD oil, once ingested, interacts with said neurotransmitters and reduces inflammation, which is the number one culprit behind pain. CBD can be a helpful treatment when it comes to pain associated with multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms, and arthritis.

Acne

As CBD is proven to reduce inflammation, it can be a helpful treatment towards acne. Acne is typically caused by overproduction of sebum, inflammation, genetics, and bacteria on the skin. Luckily, CBD can help with these factors by reducing sebum production; this calms down underlying inflammation and calms down skin altogether.

CBD oil can be exceptionally helpful as a treatment method for multiple daily aches, pains, and ailments. No matter how you ingest it, apply it, or use it topically, CBD oil has the potential to improve your health while providing a more natural alternative to modern drugs (just don’t swap out your prescriptions without consulting a doctor first).
