Molluscum contagiosum is a poxvirus skin infection that displays symptom of papules rashes that are pearly in appearance. The lesions of the rashes look swollen but are smooth and firm on top. The rashes can appear on all over the body including face, neck, belly, hand, and leg. Normally, the lesion will not grow on the hand palm or foot sole. The lesion can be both painful and itchy.

Molluscum contagoisum is a contagious skin infection that commonly occurred in very young children aged in between 1 – 5 years old. Adults can also get the skin infection, especially those who suffer from illness or have weak immune system. For example, people who have just undergone chemotherapy sessions are more susceptible in getting the skin infection.

The skin infection can be spread through direct skin contact, sexual contact (although it’s not considered a sexually transmitted disease and you don’t have to get an STD test to diagnose it) and touching the object that belongs to the person that has the skin infection. The virus has the potential of spreading to other parts of your body. You will remain contagious until the last spot on your skin is dry up and disappear. Because it is contagious, it is important that you cover up the area that has the rashes so that it does not spread to other people that you come into contact.

The Molluscum contagiosum rashes can heal and disappear on its own without any treatment in the shortest time of 2 months.  Some people with weaker immune system tend to suffer from the rashes for months. If you rashes did not disappear on its own, it is time you should resort to getting treatment. The treatment is usually in the form of a topical cream that must be applied directly on the skin.

For the best result, you should use a topical cream that is designed specifically for treating molluscum contagiosum. You should not be using creams like acne cream as it is going to make the skin infection even worse. The ingredients of the cream must be made from natural ingredients without the use of any chemical.

Applying the topical cream will speed up the life cycle of the bumps. You should apply the cream at least 2 – 3 times a day. If you apply the cream on your child, you must tell him not to do activities that can rub off the cream, for example playing with the slide. In this way, the cream will be able to effectively kill the virus and the blister will quickly disappear. The cream does stain your clothes but this is a small price to pay considering that it can help you heal your bumps.

The bumps will quickly mature into heads and pop. Once the blister has popped, it will dry out and heal on its own. You must be patient and consistently apply the cream on your skin for at least 1 month in order to see result. You will see at least a 50% decrease in the amount of blisters if you consistently apply the cream. No new blister will appear after all your blisters are healed with the application of the topical cream.
