I am also active in speaking, training and coaching people to unlock the power of lifestyle & dietary habits change for health.
Many people also call me “What’s Cooking Doc?” As a result of my five-year tenure as a full-time head chef in a restaurant from 2014 to 2019, I began serving as a living classroom for individuals to explore new foods and improve their eating habits. I’m an adventurer, and in the more than two decades since I graduated from medical school, I’ve taken a lot of interesting trips, many of which I write about in this blog. My passion right now is practicing, teaching, coaching, and “preaching” a lifestyle as medicine. My calling and purpose is to help people unlock the power of lifestyle for a longer healthier life and to help them jumpstart their journeys of unlocking the power of a healthy lifestyle to ‘disease-proof’ themselves and most of all their loved ones.

In the past few years, I’ve been privileged to be invited and given platforms on various TV and print media (collated HERE) to share my story and advocate improving the lifestyle and eating habits of individuals and food culture of our society as the first go medicine to combat chronic lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
I never set out to advocate for health. Like most Singaporeans, I had always been a fervent foodie. However, a series of events over the years led me to become the health advocate I am today, particularly regarding the significant health effects of our daily food choices. I am a physician and run a medical clinic that places an emphasis on the use of lifestyle medicine. There, I prescribe lifestyle modifications as medicine and guide patients through dietary and exercise programs to manage lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol disorders, and body weight issues. And as time went on, I realized that I needed to do more to help people understand and appreciate the power of lifestyle for better health. As a result, I started a consultancy and training company called “ENGINES of HEALTH,” where I run workshops, seminars, and healthy lifestyle training programs for individuals and organizations. These programs aim to awaken, equip, and jumpstart participants’ lifestyle and dietary habits for living longer, healthier lives. Whatever other free time left that I can squeeze out, I would usually be found ‘preaching’ and teaching the power of lifestyle as medicine at conferences, churches, companies, organisations and events that I get invited to.
I also started The Bento People by accident a few years ago, where I worked as the full-time chef for a few years. From 2014 to 2019, when we closed the restaurant to concentrate on our other work, my wife managed the restaurant’s day-to-day operations while I served as head chef and managed the kitchen. Then, I was frequently seen “playing with food” in the kitchen, brainstorming new ways to incorporate healthier ingredients into new dishes for the restaurant’s menu and using that opportunity whenever possible to engage my customers and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle.
